Does it hurt your phone in anyway if you are charging it as your using it ?
No. Its perfectly fine to do this. If your using it it wont charge as fast as if you werent, but if you have your phone plugged in and your playing a game or surfing the web or watching a video nothing will happen, it just wont charge as fast. Hope this helps answer your question!
