I have a 2g ipod touch that has probably had water damage. My sister claims that it has never been submerged has but both the internal and external sensors are tripped. Everything is working fine except the backlight will not turn on. I tried swapping out the LCD screen but that did not solve the problem. I’ve taken out the logic board and cleaned it all and there are no obvious corrosion spots. Anyone have any suggestions?
I work on broken iPods all the time and we get water damaged iTouches in all the time. The backlight is built into the LCD and we’ll try an LCD but the vast majority of the time, there is some kind of short in the motherboard that affects the backlight circuit. Your situation sounds all too similar…there isn’t anything you can do at this point, I’m sorry to say.
try reseting it or putting it in dfu mode and restoring your ipod. search how to put your ipod into dfu mode if you dont knwo how
There is actually something you could do, but it takes some serious soldering skills from what i gather. The “6R8” coil is most likely fried, you can find them on eBay and other suppliers for about 15 bucks, but like i said its soldered on the logic board. Google 6R8 and youll get some hits.
