I have an older amana upright 23 cu freezer. I’m not sure how old it is but the shelves and walls are all aluminum. The outside back of the freezer is hot to touch on left midway down and i’m wondering if this is normal or something I should be concerned with. It is working fine.
Check it again in a couple of hours to see if it is in its defrost cycle. UPDATE The condenser fan motor draws air through the condenser and over the condenser coils. If the condenser fan is not running, check the fan blades for obstructions. Next, ensure that the blades spin freely. If the fan blades do not spin freely, the fan motor bearings are worn out, and the fan motor should be replaced. If no obstructions are present, and the fan blades spin freely, use a multimeter to test the fan motor for continuity. If the condenser fan motor does not have continuity, replace it. See if the coils are frozen over or very dirty and let me know. UPDATE 2 Sounds like it is in the defrost cycle all the time. Here’s how to diagnose it: http://www.appliance-repair-it.com/defro…
