Hi everyone. I have a problem with my laptop Asus VivoBook x542un (r542un and k542un is other names), 1- After buying the laptop, I gave it to the repair shop to add a SSD to it. 2- Everything was fine until a month later the battery problems started, and the laptop battery only worked in certain physical positions (eg upside down). 3- I gave the laptop to the repair shop again to solve this problem. And they solved the problem. 4- A few months later, battery problems started again. And over time, the battery was working in less physical positions. 5- Finally, I decided to open the laptop and check the problem closely, all the connections and cables looked perfectly fine, but then the battery didn’t work at all. some notes:
- If the AC cable is not connected, the system clock will not change.
- Battery percentage is displayed correctly in both Windows and BIOS.
- The battery is definitely healthy, because this problem existed since the first month when the battery was new. And at times when the problem of connecting the battery to the motherboard was not established, the battery did not have any unexpected behavior such as sudden discharge.
- The problem is definitely not the power button, because if I disconnect the AC cable while the laptop is on, the laptop turns off instantly.
- I tried upgrading and downgrading the BIOS to the first and latest version, but it has no effect on the problem. I’m pretty sure the problem is with the battery connection to the motherboard, but I can’t find it, can you tell me which parts to check? I searched a lot, but I found only two similar problems, neither of which were solved. this and this
I finally find the problem after 3 years. There is a two white metal screws near under the RAM cover, One of them makes contact on two tracks of main board and it is must be there to run on battery! (Original Answer) For anyone which facing similar issue, you need make sure that these two screws has a good connection to the keyboard aluminum:
For me when I gave my device to a repair shop to add a SSD, they broke one of these screws and used glue instead (!!!). The glue is non-conductive, So, its connection to the aluminum of the keyboard was disconnected, and I find it today :(
