I may be purchasing an as-is black A1181 MacBook, and the possibility for a logic board replacement being needed seems likely. If I do end up buying a logic board, will any A1181 board work? If that’s the case, I’ll definitely buy the 2.13GHz Penryn board and put it in. Or do I need to buy the same exact board that was originally in the machine?

No, there are some differences in the placement of the mounting pegs on the different year logic boards. I know because last week I tried to put a 2008 A1181 in a 2009 A1181 case. So I would stay with the same year model logic board I think you’ll have better luck. I’m still fighting with this machine but I have about eight broken machines and one good logic board so I’ll be sorting through them this week and let you if I find anything different. Color doesn’t matter. You can go here and input the serial number to know the year, (you can find that when you take the battery out): http://www.everymac.com/ultimate-mac-loo

I also tried to swap logicboard from a macbook 1.1 (1,83ghz) to a macbook 3.1 (2.2ghz - santa rosa) and they didn’t match. The antenna cables, the battery connector/slp SW, the inverter’s cable, the fan’s cable, the heatsink’s cable and maybe more are incompatibles. It’s hard I know cause they are so similar…
