Hello Everyone, I’m planning to install Apple Blade SSD in my iMac late 2012 i7 27” with 3TB fusion drive. If I add AB SSD to my system, will it work with 3TB fusion drive. Thanks guys
Ah! I’ve got two feet and I want to put on another shoe problem! Sadly the Fusion drive uses both drive ports! The SATA port holds the HDD (spinning rust drive) and the hidden custom PCIe slot on the backside of the logic board is holding a small blade SSD for the cache drive for your HDD. The two together make up the Fusion Drive set. So… You are removing the caching SSD and putting in a bigger blade SSD making it the boot drive and forgoing the Fusion Drive config. Which is what I would do if you want the full performance the PCIe interface can offer!
