Okay, so I have an iPhone 4s locked to Verizon/CDMA on ios 5.1.1. I am trying to unlock it to GSM, but everything I have tried to achieve unlocked status has failed (Jailbreak unlock using SAM, factory unlock). Is there any way I could perform a hardware mod and remove the CDMA processor and replace it with a GSM processor? Or, are the two so different that it would most likely not fit or recognize it? Any assistance in this would be appreciated.
Brandon, as noted in the teardown, the iPhone 4S is a “world phone, it will support both GSM and CDMA networks. Regardless of your carrier, you can be sure that the micro-SIM slot will be there to accept your GSM micro-SIM cards, as well as any CDMA “roaming SIM.” That would mean that there are no hardware mods, but you will require plenty of FW mods. You will get more information about this on here, and here as well. If you are really looking to do that, check on here, or go the Verizon way if you are a current customer in good standing, check here. As you can see, there is plenty of information out there, and ultimately it all depends on you. Hope this helps, good luck.
Hello The Sprint/Verizon iPhone 4S does have a GSM side to the device that is used for International Roaming only. The GSM side of the device is locked by the service provider to block it from using domestic GSM networks (such as AT&T or T-Mobile). Locked, at the firmware level and can’t be unlocked. Almost all of Sprint’s and Verizon phones are locked in this manner to prevent you from using them on other networks. In my experience I have not seen anyone successful with either Verizon or Sprint get the GSM part of their device unlocked and working properly on AT&T or T-mobile. It couldn’t hurt to contact Verizon and see if they have ability to unlock an iPhone 4S and the GSM side of the device, however it won’t work. : / (Sorry.) Keep in mind that the Verizon iPhone 5, 5C, 5S, 6 and 6+ are unlocked from the factory and will work without any additional unlocking steps. The Sprint 5, 5C, 5S, 6 and 6+ are all locked and need to be unlocked or flashed. Hope this helps!
There is a new Gevey ultra S CDMA kit,and I think it will definitely solve your issue.

Aren’t Verizon iPhone 4S’s all unlocked now? I’m about to buy one for use with another GSM carrier and I came across this: https://discussions.apple.com/message/27… Can anyone confirm this?
